Top 5 Reasons You Should Bike The Seminole Wekiva Trail

The Seminole Wekiva Bike Trail is a must-see destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Spanning nearly 14 miles of picturesque trails, the route winds along quiet neighborhoods and natural habitats in beautiful Central Florida. With its flat terrain and frequent rest stops, the trail is ideal for all levels of cyclist. It’s a truly a beloved attraction for Longwood, Lake Mary and Altamonte residents. Here are my top 5 reasons you should get out and explore this trail on bike.

Fully Paved and Mostly Shaded Trail

Enjoy a worry-free ride on the Seminole Wekiva Bike Trail, with its fully paved and mostly shaded path. Perfect for cyclists of all levels and abilities, you can take your time to take in the sights of scenic wetlands and wooded areas without heat stoke. There are a couple of areas where you will need to maneuver through stop lights and intersections, but it’s quick to move through with crossing buttons and you are back into shaded scenery in no time. You’ll even get to bike through a couple tunnels that take you under major intersections.

This Trail Has All the Amenities You’ve Dreamed Of

Benches, trash cans, bathrooms, doggie poop bags, water fountain and air pump stations. Everything you need for a pleasant and enjoyable day ride is easily accessible. Oh and there’s plenty of parking at multiple trailheads along the way. I suggest you start at the San Sebastián Trailhead and head Northeast. (More on that later.)

Great Viewing Platforms for Nature Lovers

The Seminole Wekiva Bike Trail is the perfect destination for nature admirers. Along the route, you’ll find fantastic viewing platforms overlooking pristine wetlands and forests. Stop and take a moment to observe the local wildlife – hawks, ducks and other native species are often seen foraging in their natural habitat. You’ll also pass a couple spots where you can catch a glimpse of horses and cows.

There’s an Outdoor Art Exhibit – No Lie!

As you ride along the Seminole Wekiva Bike Trail, look out for art installations created by local artists. This is the fun part. From sculptures and paintings to murals and graffiti, there’s something new around every bend. Take a break from pedaling and admire the incredible talent on display. Who knows – you may even find some inspiration for your own artistic creations. So don’t forget to stop and snap some pics of the artwork along your journey. These are highly Instagramable areas! Check out their Facebook page here.

There’s a Brewery Along The Way

If you’re looking to refuel on the journey, I can highly recommend a stop at Orange County Brewers. If you start at the San Sebastian Trailhead, you can end your ride there and turn around to head back. With delicious tacos provided by Tin and Taco and a copious amount of local taps to choose from, this provides the perfect experience for cyclists who want to break up their ride with some fun. Pro tip: Do this ride on a Sunday and check out the brunch menu!

So why wait? Fasten your helmet and let’s go on an expedition. The Seminole Wekiva Bike Trail is the ideal location to renew yourself with some fresh air while taking in Central Florida’s beautiful scenery.

My Favorite Central Florida Theme Park

Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida is the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for an unforgettable Central Florida vacation. Not only does it boast relaxing white-sand beaches and crystal clear waters, but there are also plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. From snorkeling with dolphins to swimming through lush coral reefs, this theme park has something for everyone.

The Wind Away Lazy River is the perfect retreat for anyone looking to relax and unwind. Its lazy river experience is one of the most popular attractions at the park, providing guests with a tranquil escape from reality. The winding stream circles through lush foliage, taking visitors past cascading waterfalls, various beaches, a marmoset habitat, and an underwater cave with an otter exhibit. Enjoy a leisurely float under the warm Florida sun. It’s a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else!

As if that wasn’t enough, snorkeling in Discovery Cove is an experience like no other. The resort has a variety of different areas to explore, from shallow reefs and sandy bottoms to deeper shipwrecks and caves. Here you can find colorful fish, stingrays, and even sharks! You’ll get up close and personal with these creatures as you swim along, feeling like a part of the underwater world. Plus, all the equipment you’ll need is provided – so you don’t have to worry about preparing or lugging anything yourself. It’s an unforgettable adventure for anyone looking for an out-of-the-ordinary experience!

The Discovery Cove Dolphin Encounter is an incredible experience that you’ll never forget. You can swim with a dolphin and enjoy the ride of your life! Plus, get a great photo to remember the moment forever. The dolphins are incredibly friendly and intelligent animals that make sure to give each visitor the best possible experience. The trainers are highly experienced and knowledgeable, so you can rest assured that your safety is their top priority. It’s one of the most memorable activities offered at Discovery Cove and one you won’t want to miss!

At Discovery Cove, your ticket price covers a variety of unlimited delicious meals for you to enjoy. Start the day off at 7 am with an American breakfast buffet or light continental options. By lunchtime, you can have sandwiches, salads, and a range of international dishes. Of course, dessert is always available such as ice cream and slushies for the kids.

This is probably my favorite theme park due to its restricted crowd size, unlimited food options, and magical animal encounters. I can’t recommend it more for a great way to beat the Central Florida heat and relax.

Scottish Highland Games Festival in Winter Springs

If you’re ever looking for a fun and unique festival to attend, look no further than the Annual Scottish Highland Games Festival in Winter Springs. Held every January , this festival celebrates Scotland’s rich history and culture with traditional Highland games like the Caber Toss, Sheaf Toss, Hammer Throw and many more. There is also plenty of music like piping and drumming bands. Plus, the atmosphere is always vibrant and welcoming; it’s a great experience for families or anyone who wants to explore the Scottish heritage.

This festival is a celebration of all things Scottish and the food selections are the highlight in my opinion. There is a wide variety of traditional Scottish dishes, such as haggis, fish and chips and meat pies. These dishes are not only delicious but also represent the culture and heritage of Scotland. There are also plenty of sweet treats to choose like shortbread and candies.

There’s a portion of this festival that was most interesting to me, the Clan Tents. Walking around, you can check your surname against the list of clans and find your clan’s tent. Inside, you can learn about your clan history and get to meet people who share your same family name, regardless of if you are related or not! I was so surprised how many common surnames there were in Scotland. It really made me feel a connection with the country and its culture. I am now a member of Clan Davidson!

The array of Scottish musicians and bands was fun to watch. Just bring your beach chair or picnic blanket and enjoy yourself. It included bands like Albannach, The Screaming Orphans, and Barleyjuice.

There’s something for everyone at this festival, so whether you’re a longtime fan of Scotland or just looking to have some fun, be sure to check it out!

Considering a Move to Bay Hill?

If you’re considering a move to Bay Hill, you’ll find yourself in good company. This golf-centric neighborhood is home to some of the most welcoming and friendly people around. It has all the amenities of a larger city but with a cozy, easy going feel tucked away on a famous golf course.

Bay Hill Florida is a charming community with an interesting history. It was originally founded in the late 18th century by a Tennessee physician named Dr. P Phillips. He purchased over 5,000 acres of land in Central Florida spanning from what is now Conroy Rd to the Sand Lake Chain. In the 1920’s he began growing citrus fruits commercially and was instrumental in the innovation of processing and packing orange juice.

The area eventually grew in population with the addition of a new and modern citrus packing plant and became a bustling community. Bay Hill began to attract people from all over the world thanks to its mild climate, beautiful scenery, and availability of work.

In 1960, two businessmen, Tom Barnes and Tom Dore from Minnesota had a different vision for the Bay Hill area. They imagined the addition of a sprawling 18-hole golf course with course architect, Dick Wilson. Finished in 1961, the golf course quickly became a favorite among professional tour players. It was purchased by Arnold Palmer in 1974, and in 1979, the Arnold Palmer Invitational was held at Bay Hill for the first time.

Today, Bay Hill is a popular destination for tourists and golfers alike. It serves as a great place to relax and enjoy the mild Florida weather. Visitors can stay at the iconic Bay Hill Lodge, or simply take a round of golf on the Arnold Palmer course. Whether you’re looking for a second home as an exciting getaway or just a peaceful retirement retreat, Bay Hill has something for everyone.

Home prices in Bay Hill, currently range in price from $600,000 to a few million depending upon their location on or off the golf course. You can find everything from retro 70’s style architecture to new modern builds.

Those that live in the community enjoy the annual tournament fanfare and plan huge parties to celebrate. Kids and adults alike enjoy collecting autographs and rouge golf balls throughout the week. Owning a golf cart is a must, as it is the best way to get around the neighborhood and enjoy some of the most beautiful course holes.

One of the best parts, in my personal opinion, about living in Bay Hill, is the proximity to Restaurant Row.  This is a strip of restaurants located just minutes away and has some of the most amazing food experiences around. Enjoy some of my favorites such as Christini’s, Chatham’s, The H, and North Italia.

I’ve had the pleasure of helping buyers and sellers in The Bay Hill community for over 17 years. If you’re interested in learning more about this area or would like to view available homes, please feel free to contact me. I’d be more than happy to assist you!
