If you’re considering a move to Bay Hill, you’ll find yourself in good company. This golf-centric neighborhood is home to some of the most welcoming and friendly people around. It has all the amenities of a larger city but with a cozy, easy going feel tucked away on a famous golf course.
Bay Hill Florida is a charming community with an interesting history. It was originally founded in the late 18th century by a Tennessee physician named Dr. P Phillips. He purchased over 5,000 acres of land in Central Florida spanning from what is now Conroy Rd to the Sand Lake Chain. In the 1920’s he began growing citrus fruits commercially and was instrumental in the innovation of processing and packing orange juice.
The area eventually grew in population with the addition of a new and modern citrus packing plant and became a bustling community. Bay Hill began to attract people from all over the world thanks to its mild climate, beautiful scenery, and availability of work.
In 1960, two businessmen, Tom Barnes and Tom Dore from Minnesota had a different vision for the Bay Hill area. They imagined the addition of a sprawling 18-hole golf course with course architect, Dick Wilson. Finished in 1961, the golf course quickly became a favorite among professional tour players. It was purchased by Arnold Palmer in 1974, and in 1979, the Arnold Palmer Invitational was held at Bay Hill for the first time.
Today, Bay Hill is a popular destination for tourists and golfers alike. It serves as a great place to relax and enjoy the mild Florida weather. Visitors can stay at the iconic Bay Hill Lodge, or simply take a round of golf on the Arnold Palmer course. Whether you’re looking for a second home as an exciting getaway or just a peaceful retirement retreat, Bay Hill has something for everyone.
Home prices in Bay Hill, currently range in price from $600,000 to a few million depending upon their location on or off the golf course. You can find everything from retro 70’s style architecture to new modern builds.
Those that live in the community enjoy the annual tournament fanfare and plan huge parties to celebrate. Kids and adults alike enjoy collecting autographs and rouge golf balls throughout the week. Owning a golf cart is a must, as it is the best way to get around the neighborhood and enjoy some of the most beautiful course holes.
One of the best parts, in my personal opinion, about living in Bay Hill, is the proximity to Restaurant Row. This is a strip of restaurants located just minutes away and has some of the most amazing food experiences around. Enjoy some of my favorites such as Christini’s, Chatham’s, The H, and North Italia.
