If you’re ever looking for a fun and unique festival to attend, look no further than the Annual Scottish Highland Games Festival in Winter Springs. Held every January , this festival celebrates Scotland’s rich history and culture with traditional Highland games like the Caber Toss, Sheaf Toss, Hammer Throw and many more. There is also plenty of music like piping and drumming bands. Plus, the atmosphere is always vibrant and welcoming; it’s a great experience for families or anyone who wants to explore the Scottish heritage.
This festival is a celebration of all things Scottish and the food selections are the highlight in my opinion. There is a wide variety of traditional Scottish dishes, such as haggis, fish and chips and meat pies. These dishes are not only delicious but also represent the culture and heritage of Scotland. There are also plenty of sweet treats to choose like shortbread and candies.
There’s a portion of this festival that was most interesting to me, the Clan Tents. Walking around, you can check your surname against the list of clans and find your clan’s tent. Inside, you can learn about your clan history and get to meet people who share your same family name, regardless of if you are related or not! I was so surprised how many common surnames there were in Scotland. It really made me feel a connection with the country and its culture. I am now a member of Clan Davidson!
The array of Scottish musicians and bands was fun to watch. Just bring your beach chair or picnic blanket and enjoy yourself. It included bands like Albannach, The Screaming Orphans, and Barleyjuice.
There’s something for everyone at this festival, so whether you’re a longtime fan of Scotland or just looking to have some fun, be sure to check it out!
